Education Director: Isaac Mujaasi

Ugandan by nationality. I work with Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre as the Programs and Public Relations Officer. I have been in professional conservation since 2000. I started as an Animal Keeper at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and changed to Conservation Education in 2003. Over the years, I have had a tremendous opportunity to work in the different designations that ranged from animal keeping, sanctuary/ zoo education officer, development manager, marketing, community development among positions.   I hold Master of Science in Education for Sustainability from London South Bank University, Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Degree in Tourism and History from Makerere University, Kampala.

I have been involved in conservation projects since my childhood, where I managed a tree planting project in my village at 13 years. I sold seedlings raise pocket money and look after my siblings, being the 4th born in a family of 7 children.

Off my official work, am professional guide, who conducts tailored tours, community development programs, designs children play equipment and a true fun for all-terrain vehicles and Land rovers!

My favorite animal is chimpanzee, their intuitive understanding and behavior is like working with my children. But the most important thing is my readiness to speak for them and ensure that they are saved for generations after us. Regardless of your professional background or social orientation in society, we all have a role to play if we are to make the world a better place for us all.

I am very excited to have joined the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and International Zoo Educators Association (IZE) as the Education Director. To me, it’s an absolute privilege and honor to get to work for the “United Nations of Zoos and Aquariums”; share my perspectives, skills and get to learn even better ways on how we can conserve the world’s biodiversity, resources in our life time, through influencing behavior and mindset change. I thank you all for this privilege.
