
Africa Regional Representative
Francis William Ruhinirwa is a Conservation Education Officer at Uganda Wildlife Authority attached to UWEC – Conservation Area. He is a graduate of Makerere University MSC. Environment and Natural Resources Management, BSC (Hons), Education, Biology and Chemistry. A Former Senior Chemistry and biology teacher, now a professional conservation educationist for the last ten years. Francis has developed many Conservation Education programs and materials that have been used widely in Uganda. Francis has played a key role in the establishment of regional Zoos in Uganda, was voted Educator of the year by PAAZA (2022), represented UWEC at the IZE conference in New Zealand, and spearheaded the celebration of Zoo and Aquarium Educators Day by the UWEC team. Francis has supported the national efforts to implement the WAZA Conservation Education Strategy and the Carbon reduction guide. Francis has also coordinated four community projects and one was published in the IZE Journal (2019 Edition). He has mentored students, interns, staff and volunteer Educators. His favorite animal is the leopard but he is a giraffe by character. Francis loves traveling, reading and writing and passionate about innovative solutions to salient human challenges.
